When you wear a Panerai watch you’re wearing a signature that harks back to the late Renaissance. Founded in 1860, the watch brand brought Italian design and Swiss technology together and started a trend to make watches, not only precision instruments, but fashionable, too. Panerai would soon become the official timekeeper for the Royal Italian Navy, figuring in many notable war-time heroics by Italian submarine fleet. Panerai is remembered to have supplied watches to a group of Italian volunteers who would fit into midget submarines to attack the much bigger Allied fleet. But Panerai would later come across financial difficulties and it would stop supplying the military. Years hence in 1995, a Hollywood A-list actor bought a set of Panerais in Rome, and soon, the signature watch was back in the limelight. Thanks to Sylvester Stallone.
Panerai is available at Shreve & Co. in Palo Alto, California.
