Officine Panerai was founded in 1860 by Giovanni Panerai in Florence. To this day, Officine Panerai maintains its headquarters in Italy but manufactures all of its watches in Neuchâtel, Switzerland. The impressive durability of Panerai’s early timepieces prompted the Royal Italian Navy to commission a diver’s watch, for its frogmen commandos, that could resist the most extreme underwater pressure.
Over the past decade, Panerai has become one of the most coveted watch brands in the world because of it’s unusually large timepieces, including the "Radiomir" and "Luminor". In fact, many watch historians believe the company has inspired the most storied Swiss watchmakers to begin producing much larger case sizes.
