Holiday shopping is stressful. The search for the perfect gift can be overwhelming. You want to show that special person in your life that they matter. We know a few things to be true for the holidays. Heritage companies make timeless gifts. Quality matters. Giving a gift that matches the personality of the receiver is always a win. With these things in mind we immediately think of IWC. The Schaffhausen manufacturer is celebrating 150 years and is known globally for their impeccable quality. To help relieve some of the holiday shopping stress, we’ve gathered four of our favorites from IWC which are sure to delight that special someone this season, even if that special someone is yourself.
IW31447 Portugieser Chronograph
The IWC Portugieser Chronograph is simple elegance combined with modern timekeeping technology. Powered by the 79350 Calibre movement which provides a 44-hour power reserve, the Portugieser Chronograph has been the most sought-after model in the Portugieser family since it was introduced in 1998. The 40.8 mm diameter stainless steel case measures 12.6 mm in thickness, making this timepiece ideal for a slender wrist. The black dial is offset by black recessed totalizers at 6 and 12 o’clock. The stainless-steel case is complemented by embossed Arabic numeral hour markers. The chronograph complication measures minutes and seconds while the feuille hands mark the time. Completed by a 20 mm wide black alligator leather strap, the IWC Portugieser Chronograph is a classic timepiece with a touch of modern complication.
IW503302 Portugieser Perpetual Calendar
Wrapped in 18-carat red gold, the Portugieser Perpetual Calendar is watchmaking excellence personified. The seven-day power reserve (168 hours) comes complements of the IWC-manufactured 52610 Calibre movement operating at a frequency of 28,800 vph. A perpetual calendar displays the date, day, month, and year in four digits as well as a perpetual moon phase. The Portugieser Perpetual Calendar features the Pellaton automatic winding system originally designed by IWC technical director Albert Pellaton in the 1940s. At 44.2 mm in diameter and 14.9 mm in height, the Perpetual Calendar is a stately timepiece. The elegant timepiece leaves virtually no wish unfulfilled. Four subdials on the silver-plated dial offer all the details of the perpetual calendar while also displaying the power reserve and small seconds. Dark Brown alligator leather by Santoni completes the Perpetual Calendar in the form of a 22 mm strap. Stately, elegant, and packed full of information, the Portugieser Perpetual Calendar is exceptional watchmaking at its finest.
IW392103 Da Vinci Perpetual Calendar Chronograph
The IWC Da Vinci Perpetual Calendar Chronograph is powered by the 89630 Calibre IWC-manufactured movement. Wrapped in a stainless-steel 43.0 mm case, the automatic, self-winding timepiece has a 68-hour power reserve and see-through sapphire glass back. The perpetual calendar displays the date, day, month, and year in four digits with a perpetual moon phase complication. The moon phase is so precise that it diverges by only one day every 577.5 years. Measured in hours, minutes, and seconds, the chronograph function also combines the hour and minute counters in a combined totalizer placed at 12 o’clock and a fly back function. Finished by a small hacking seconds hand in blue on a slate colored dial, the Da Vinci Perpetual Calendar Chronograph is a perfect addition to any wrist that values the measure of time.
IW377714 Pilot’s Watch Chronograph Edition “Le Petite Prince”
If the previous three watches detailed luxury, the Pilot’s Watch Le Petite Prince stands for precision, functionality, and reliability. The Chronograph Edition is housed in a 43.0 mm Stainless Steel case with a soft-iron inner case which protects against magnetic fields and features a screw in crown. The glass is secured against displacement caused by drops in air pressure, and the sapphire glass features antireflective coating on both sides. Powered by the 79320 Calibre automatic, self-winding movement, the “Le Petite Prince” edition has a 44-hour power reserve and presents time on a trademark blue dial with luminescence. Named after Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s story “The Little Prince”, the Chronograph edition features an engraving on the rear of the little prince with his cape and sword. The chronograph movement provides both single stop and aggregate timing up to 12 hours and is displayed in the three dials offset on the face by the day-date window at 3 o’clock. The brown calfskin strap from Santoni finishes a timepiece that looks as good as it works.
