At first glance, the Necklace of the Year 2018 NOW is a classic, practical piece that can be worn every day. However, the art of producing this unique necklace lies in the special skill and intuition of Wellendorff’s goldsmiths and in the manufactory’s 125 years of jewelry making experience. Each necklace takes over 9 months of skilled handwork to complete.

A single strand of diamonds is elegantly encircled by three Brilliance of the Sun ropes. This necklace hangs perfectly against the body, thanks to Wellendorff’s clever engineering. Two gold stands are held together discreetly in the center of the necklace by inherent tension, making the ropes fan out slightly and nestle perfectly underneath the diamonds. The necklace’s third gold strand rests gently above the rest, creating a focal point and converting the entire piece into a symbol for life defined by the inseparable trilogy of yesterday, today, and tomorrow.

The row of diamonds is meant to embody the special moments in our journey through which life shines the brightest - youth, marriage, children, promotions, and goals achieved. Each of the 141 stones representing a particular moment of happiness in the wearer's life.

The number of diamonds in the stand - 141 - is also a reference to the number of necklaces in the special edition. To pay tribute to the 41st anniversary of the Wellendorff silk rope, only 41 necklaces of this type will be produced in 18-karat yellow or white gold, according to the customer’s preference. Each piece will be made this year to spec.

Each necklace is finished with the Wellendorff clasp and extension chain to ensure security and perfect fit for each lucky owner.
